Betty Jane Bolen

86 year old, Betty Jane Bolen, of Rensselaer, passed away on June 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on October 15, 1936, in Greenway, South Dakota, to Henry and Bertha (Diede) Schmitt. Betty worked as a housekeeper for an assisted living facility. She loved all animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed being outside in the yard, or searching for treasures at resale shops and yard sales. She loved watching movies and was a country music fan with a love of Johnny Cash. She was found often listening to country artists perform at the Midway Ballroom in Cedar Lake. Betty loved to paint.

Betty is survived by her children: Neale ‘Scotty’ (Stacie) Bolen, Keith ‘Bobo’ (Nancy) Bolen, Lisa (Bob) Beck, Charli (Jef) Kors, 7 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, siblings: Melvin Schmitt, Donnie Schmitt, many nieces and nephews, and her special dog friends: Buddy, Bo Diddley, and Jax.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 6 brothers.

Per Betty’s wishes, cremation will take place.

A Celebration of Life for Betty will take place on a later date.
