Betty Sholes

80 year old, Betty Sholes, of DeMotte, passed away September 9, 2026, surrounded by her family.

On October 16, 1945, Betty was born to Harold Harris and Emogene (Schartiger) Hickman, in Richwood, West Virginia. Betty married the love of her life, Hansford ‘Tom’ “Worm” Sholes, on November 10, 1964, who precedes her. She enjoyed camping, word searches, tweezing, and her flowers. Betty was a phenomenal cook, with world class biscuits and gravy, and vegetable oil fried, fried chicken being her best meals. The greatest joys in her life, that she loved more than anything in the world, were her babies: her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her children: Brenda Sholes, Thomas ‘Jason’ (Kristin) Sholes, the son she chose: Phil Hamstra, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, siblings: David (Margie) Hickman, Ernie Hickman, Cathy Hickman, Ricky (Teresa) Hickman, and her beloved dog: Princess.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Homer Hickman, son: Fred Sholes, and granddaughter: Angela Sholes.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield. Funeral Services for Betty will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Helton officiating. Interment will follow at the DeMotte Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
