Charles Gerald 'Jerry' Scott

89 year old, Charles Gerald “Jerry” Scott Sr., of Wheatfield, passed away on August 8, 2025.

On February 12, 1936, Jerry was born to William and Frances (Clark) Scott, in Riverside, Iowa. He graduated from Hobart High School, class of 1955. Jerry married the love of his life, Mary Basiger, on February 23, 1957, in Gary, Indiana, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2022. He worked for US Steel. Jerry was a member of the Wheatfield Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for a time, and was an EMT in Wheatfield EMS in his younger days. He served on the Wheatfield Town Board, and the Wheatfield Planning Commission. Jerry enjoyed mushroom hunting, and going on vacation with family. He could be found sitting out in the sun on his patio, watching the cars go by and feeding his birds, squirrels, and rabbits. Jerry loved his pets over the years, his dogs: Pepper and Jewel, and most recently his cat: Addie, who survives him.

Jerry is survived by his children: Charles Jr. (Brenda) Scott, James (Nancy) Scott, Sharon (Joe) Gilbert, Dawn (Dean) Stalbaum, Christena (Gary) Oestreich, grandchildren: Patrick, Marisa, Zachary Scott, Brett, Justin, Kalep Scott, Kelli Greer, Meghan, Christopher, Matthew Stalbaum, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 7 step great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Mary, and brothers: William Jr., James, and Donald.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God, 11787 N. St. Rd. 49, Wheatfield, IN 46392. Services for Jerry will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with Pastor Doug Griffith officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wheatfield Volunteer Fire Department.
