Cheri Born

62 year old, Cheri Born, of Wheatfield, passed away January 15, 2023.

On July 10, 1960, Cheri was born to Larry and Shirley (Williams) Gilbert, in Rensselaer, Indiana. Cheri was a graduate of Kankakee Valley High School class of 1978. Cheri was a people person who loved being a waitress/bartender. She worked at Marti’s Place, The Lighthouse, Baums Bridge Inn, Gentleman Tom’s, The Peak, and the Kniman Tap/Bar. Cheri married the love of her life, Ed Born on October 7, 1989 in Jasper County, Indiana. She liked to ride motorcycles, gardening, and coloring. She was a member of ABATE since 1999.

Cheri is survived by her husband: Ed, children: Randy (Erin) Smith, Shane Born, grandchildren: Paige Smith, Madyson McLin, Brandon Jones, Haylee Born, Cyera Born, and great-grandchild: Avery Jones, father: Larry Gilbert, and siblings: Roxanne McKim, Joe (Sharon) Gilbert, Rick Gilbert, Karen (Jeff Morey) Gilbert.

Cheri was preceded in death by her mother: Shirley Gilbert, step-son: Chad Born, and in-laws: Otto & Ruth Born.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Graveside services will take place on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Kniman United Methodist Church – Share the Warmth (hang a coat on a fence).
