Clarence R Gilbert

83 year old, Clarence R. Gilbert of DeMotte, passed away October 31, 2012.

On September 9, 1929, Clarence was born to Thurman and Lydia (nee: Sapp) Gilbert in Kokomo, Indiana.  Clarence was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Rensselaer. He was also a member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church. Clarence married his high school sweetheart Hilda Boersma-Curry on September 14, 2003.

Clarence is survived by his wife: Hilda, children: Kathleen Alberts, Barry Gilbert, Clarence R Jr. & Fiancé Deb Heath, and Carol Skaggs & special friend Mike Wandrei and Hilda’s children: Margaret (Maury) Smith, Phyllis (Bob) White, Bud (Lola) Curry, and Susan (Sid) Sworden, and 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers & sisters, and son-in-law: David Alberts.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Clarence will take place at 3:30 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Fernihough officiating. Military graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Fair Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice & DeMotte United Methodist Church.
