Cleone Downing

79 year old, Cleone Downing, of Wheatfield, passed away October 14, 2025 at her home, with her loving family around her.

On December 17, 1945, Cleone was born to Elmer Sr., and Rosetta (Scott) Luke, in Dowds, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Victor Downing, on January 8, 1966, in Crown Point, Indiana. She worked for Park View Haven and Kankakee Valley High School cleaning for a while. She attended Emanuel Lutheran Church, Wheatfield. She liked to sew, can, bake goods, and especially loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed her garden and her flower gardens.

Cleone is survived by her family: husband: Victor, daughter: Paula (Norman) Knapp, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Lydia Miller, Minnie Luke, and sister-in-law: Twilla Luke.

Cleone was preceded in death by her parents, son: Michael Downing, and siblings: Eugene Luke, Melvin Luke, Robert Luke, Elmer Luke Jr., Ida Kerr, Dorothy Luke, and Julia Bruders.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Cleone will take place at the funeral home on Saturday at noon, with Pastor Mark Fakin officiating. Interment will follow at the Wheatfield Cemetery.
