Curtis James Hunt

Curtis James Hunt, 76 years, of Wheatfield, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2019.

He was born in Gary, Indiana to Janet (Porter) Hunt and James Riley Hunt on March 23, 1942. He was a U. S. Navy Seaman serving from 1962-1965, at Glenview, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Jean Cooper on September 17, 1961 in Hobart, Indiana. Curtis was a lover of animals, and the family’s favorite joke was ‘they found Curt’. Curt never met a stranger and those that had the pleasure of meeting him had a friend for life. He was an awesome husband, father, and grandfather. He loved coming home, spending time with his family and was able to travel a lot in their motorhome. He went to Alaska, Hawaii and Australia. They toured all 48 states on their motorcycle on an 1/8th of a tank. Curt’s work ethic came from his grandparents: Waverly & Mary Porter.

Curtis is survived by his loving family: wife of 58 years: Jean, four children: Carmen (Brad) DeYoung, Cindy (Kirby) Reed, Curtis Jeffrey Hunt, Jody (Larry) Davenport, 10 grandchildren: Taylor Davis, Cody James, Mitch Sytsma, Morganne Sytsma Atteberry, Ethan Hunt, Stephen Hunt, Danielle Hunt, Meadow Crowley, Curtis Davenport, Maggie Davenport, and 8 great-grandchildren: Aiden and Macie Hunt, Liam & Claire Davis, Nora & Vera Atteberry, Corbin & Kinley Sytsma and brother: Duane Hunt.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St, Wheatfield, Indiana. Services will take place on Tuesday, evening at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with family and friends officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jasper County Humane Society, or Animal Shelter.

Per Curtis’ wishes cremation will follow.
