Daryl Hoover King, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer with his loving family around him.                                  

He was born on May 28, 1949 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Rufus B. and Wanda (Hoover) King Sr. Daryl graduated from Manchester High School in 1967. After attending Manchester College for two years, he graduated from Purdue University in 1972 with a degree in Animal Science. At Manchester he was a student athlete in football and wrestling. Daryl’s love for farming began in the seventh grade as he enjoyed working on a neighbor’s farm any chance he got. After Purdue he was hog farm manager at Ayer’s Farms at Silver Lake, Indiana and later managed Lean Line Pigs, Inc. in Fair Oaks, Indiana for 28 years. Daryl also developed his own line of rugged hog feeders under his company name Feeder King, Inc.

As an elder of Virgie Christian Church, Daryl enjoyed serving and fellowship for many years. He retired to pursue his interests in antique tractors, attending antique tractor and power shows and watching his grandkids’ sporting events. Canoeing down the Eel River with family and friends was a favorite pastime for Daryl for over 55 years. For many years Daryl also served as Jasper County Farm Bureau President and coordinated the building of the Farm Bureau Milkshake Stand at the Jasper County Fair Grounds. He also enjoyed serving with Jasper County Pork Producers. For many years he organized the Pork Chop Cookouts at the Touch of Dutch Festival in DeMotte, Indiana.

Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diana (Mason) King, his three daughters: Elizabeth (Jim) Newman, Sara (Jeff) Terborg, Kristin (Ryan) Bristol and six grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Rufus (Beccie) King Jr. and Karen (Curt) Keim.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents and brother: John J. King.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Virgie Christian Church at 6889 N 700 W, Rensselaer, IN 47978 (per google maps). A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. (CST).

A private burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana at a later date.
