Dimitri E. J. Sorrells

With great anticipation, Benjamin and Rachel Sorrells welcomed their son Dimitri Edward James Sorrells July 19, 2023. He was an athletic, explorative, and curious child; always smiling and wanting to greet everyone he met. Dimitri was adored by his parents, grandparents, his older sister, extended family, friends, and preschool friends. Dimitri loved playing outdoors at ValPlayso and at the county park in Wheatfield. He loved watching Mickey Mouse, Spiderman, and Puppy Dog Pals. He would sit with his mom as she read books, with his dad as he played video games and he loved playing and sharing toys with his sister. Dimitri’s laughter and contagious smile reminds us of the joy, hope, and potential he brought for the future. On October 28, 2026; at age three, Dimitri became an angel, yet was a lovable jerk to his Uncle Brad, lovingly ignoring him at every opportunity. Dimitri found comfort and slept in Uncle Chase’s arms shortly after being born. Uncle Glen did not meet Dimitri, but heard of Dimitri’s antics.

Dimitri was often be found playing with his toys, hiding behind the sofa or back rolling off of it. Let’s remember, Psalms 139:16, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” We were blessed with Dimitri’s presence, for only three years, we need to look forward to the promises of God and find peace knowing God holds Dimitri in His care and one day, we will be reunited. Matthew 5:4 reminds us, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” May Dimitri Rest in Peace, until we meet again.

Dimitri is survived by his loving parents: Benjamin and Rachel, sister: Eva, grandparents: Kenneth Sorrells, Suzette Sorrells, Robert Williamson, Linda Adkins, great-grandmother: Eva Bickett, and a host of cousins.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield, Indiana. Funeral Services for Dimitri will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at the Kankakee Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
