Fred J. Joritz, 96 years old, of Wheatfield, Indiana, formerly of Plainfield, Illinois, joined his beloved sweetheart in heaven on Friday, February 12, 2021.

Fred was born on March 1, 1924 in Chicago to Frederick W. and Elizabeth (Schulz) Joritz. Fred graduated from Harper High School in 1942. In 1943, Fred joined the United States Army. He completed the Army Specialized Training Program in Basic Engineering on April 1, 1944, at the University of Missouri. Fred was a member of the Company H 66th Division 263rd Infantry, Black Panther. He was overseas in France and Germany. On April 8th 1946, Pfc Fred J. Joritz received an Honorable Discharge at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Fred went on to get a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chicago Technical College in 1948. He then went to work at Chicago Bridge and Iron (CBI) for 36 years, retiring at age 65. In April 1948, Fred met the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Moses in Chicago. They were married on December 18, 1948. Fred’s wife, Ginny passed in October 2017. Fred loved playing tennis, playing bridge, teaching Tai-Chi, and watching the stock market. He was a genius with numbers.

Fred is preceded in death by his beautiful, wonderful, wife Virginia, 2 sisters: Margaret Gordon & Dolores Behan, his parents, son: Paul, infant twin sons: John & Joseph, and infant son: James.

Fred is survived by a son: Mark (Sue) Joritz, daughters: Cathy, and Jane, and former daughter-in-law Caryl (Nick) Polisson, 3 grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley, and Ryan, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to visit from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana.

Fred will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, in Elwood, Illinois, with full Military Honors.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions we respectfully ask that you follow all government mandates. Only 50 people will be allowed inside at any one time and must follow rules of social distancing. Please limit visits to 5 minutes or less, unless time permits.

If you have been COVID-19 tested positive or exposed in the last 14 days, please refrain from attending.
