Gerald 'Jerry' Smith

76 year old, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Smith, of Wheatfield, passed away May 6, 2026, at home with his family around him.

On January 8, 1950, Jerry was born to Floyd Smith and Delores (Current) Bormann, in Rensselaer, Indiana. He graduated from Wheatfield High School, class of 1968. Jerry married the love of his life, Catherine ‘Cathy’ Veden, on September 6, 1968, in Kouts, Indiana. He worked as a coal handler at NIPSCO. Jerry enjoyed muzzle loading and nature. His passion in life was cars; restoring them, taking them to car shows, and he used to drag race.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife: Cathy, children: Sherri (Randy) Crim, Jerry (Sherri) Smith, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd Smith, Delores (Bob Sr.) Bormann, and his in-laws: Ernie and Snick Veden.

Per Jerry’s wishes cremation will take place.
