Horace S Winter

89 year old, Horace S. Winter, of DeMotte, passed away on September 1, 2025, at his home with his loving family around him.

On September 7, 1935, Horace was born to Reinhold and Frieda (Knaack) Winter, in Friedrichsberg, Germany. He graduated from Horace Mann Highschool. Horace married the love of his life, Margaret Loechner on July 8, 1961, who preceded him. He worked as a butcher, and also grew and sold flowers. Horace enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, listening to German music, and building birdhouses. He more than anything loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Horace is survived by his children: Bridget (Jack) Goudy, Eric Winter, Paul Winter, grandchildren: Jennifer (Jake) Bekas, Jamie (Chris) Gambla, Jake (Rosie) Goudy, Erika (Billy) Gilland, Brittany Winter, Ryen Winter, Josh (Gina) Reno, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Horace was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Margaret, grandchildren: Jacob Goudy, Courtney Goudy, brother: Hans Winter, and sister: Margarete Winter.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, IN 46392. Services for Horace will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025, with Pastor William Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dune’s Hospice.
