Irene Evans

96 year old, Irene Evans, of DeMotte, passed away July 16, 2026.

On July 5, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, Irene was born to Thomas and Anna (Vavrek) Muraida. Irene graduated from DeMotte High School, and went on to graduate from Valparaiso University with a BA in Education. She also earned a Master’s Degree. On June 14, 1952, Irene married the love of her life, Richard “Dick, Red” Evans. Irene taught at Hebron schools for many years. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association. Irene was a Artist, and painter. She was also a farmer’s wife.

Irene is survived by her son: Thomas ‘JR’ (Jodie) Evans, 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband: Red, son: Randy, and great-great-grandchild: Lucy Ball, and 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. A Funeral Service for Irene will be at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Adam Conley officiating. Interment will follow at the DeMotte Cemetery.
