James 'Poppee' Myers Sr.

87 year old, James ‘Poppee‘ Myers Sr., of Wheatfield, passed away September 1, 2026, at home with his loving family around him.

On November 8, 1938, Poppee was born to Loris Myers and Margaret (Mahoney) Morris, in Hopwood, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Bishop Noll High School, class of 1956. Poppee married the love of his life, Elaine ‘Meema’ Keles, on November 9, 1957, at the Holy Trinity Church in Gary, Indiana. He was in the United States Army Reserves. Poppee spent 37 years working for NIPSCO, where he retired in 1992 as a station operator. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 406 in Wheatfield. Poppee enjoyed hunting, golfing, watching the History Channel, and travelling: he and Meema have been to all 50 states, and Ireland. His true and complete joy in life was being with his family: traveling, loving, supporting, and being the patriarch of his family.

Poppee is survived by his beloved wife: Meema, children: Lisa (Duane) Tucker, Brian (Deanna) Myers, Lawrence (Tami) Myers, Joseph Myers, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and sister: Ruth Morris.

Poppee was preceded in death by his parents, son: James Myers Jr., granddaughter: Heather Myers, grandson: Jared Frederick, great-granddaughter: Kayla Black, brothers: Loris ‘Lou’ Myers, John Myers, sisters: Margaret Chidester, Anna Frances Trafny, and daughter-in-law: Kathy Myers.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield, Indiana. Mass for Poppee will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, 165 South Grace Street, Wheatfield, with Father Michael McKinney officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church Food Pantry or the American Diabetes Association.
