John H. Boomsma Jr.

76 year old, John H Boomsma Jr., best known as Johnny B, of Thayer, passed away March 29, 2026.

On June 26, 1949, Johnny was born to John Boomsma Sr. and Ruth (Doot) Brynteson, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. He had a passion for stock car racing and was an avid fan and sponsor. During the race season you could always catch him at the race track cheering on his favorite team and visiting with his closest friends. Johnny had a laugh you could recognize a mile away. His social friends became like family over countless evenings of stories, jokes, and drinks. He cherished those moments of camaraderie and conversation leaving lasting memories for everyone. Johnny adored his granddaughter and was always ready to show off her pictures or tell a story about his sweet girl. He enjoyed watching her grow and would light up anytime he saw Addison or heard her say “grandpa”. Even at the very end, his face lit up as he blew kisses and told Addison he loved her.

Johnny is survived by his son: Tim Boomsma, daughter: Ashley (Kirk Spieth) Boomsma, granddaughter: Addison Spieth, siblings: David (Tondi) Boomsma, Donald (Lori) Boomsma, and Brenda (Doug) Wells. He is further survived by many dear friends and family.

Johnny is proceeded in death by his parents: John Boomsma Sr and Ruth Brynteson, sister: Ruth Ann, step-son: Lee Roegner, and the mother of his children and lifelong best friend, Brenda Boomsma- a relationship he treasured.

Per Johnny’s wishes cremation will take place.

John had the most generous heart, always there to help family and friends. Johnny B’s recognizable laugh may have quieted, but the joy he spread will echo for all who knew him.
