John A. Mentink

78 year old, John A. Mentink, of Kniman, passed away April 28, 2026.

On July 19, 1947, John was born to Marvin Mentink and Florence Willmes, in Hancock, Michigan. He graduated from Crown Point High School, class of 1965. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Wynkoop on July 24, 2004, who precedes him. John worked for NIPSCO, and was at different times a lineman, a mechanic, and a truck driver. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 440 of DeMotte. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking, watching westerns, football, and baseball. He loved doing yardwork, and was proud of his well-manicured yard.

John is survived by his siblings: Tim (Marlene) Mentink, Cathy (Bob) Trebs, 8 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, stepchildren: Randy Ritchie, Mark (Jenelle) Ritchie, Chris (Jenny) Ritchie, and 7 step-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Cynthia, and sister: Patricia Zisoff.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield, Indiana. A Military Honors Service for John will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. John will be buried next to his wife at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Graceland Cemetery in Kouts, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 440 of DeMotte or to VNA Hospice.
