Jonathan L Stepp

28 year old, Jonathan L. Stepp, of Merrillville, formerly of Wheatfield, tragically passed away in a workplace accident on August 13, 2026.

On January 14, 1998, Jon was born to William Stepp Jr. and Carrie (Beal) Stepp, in Rensselaer, Indiana. He graduated from Kankakee Valley High School, class of 2016. Jon served in the United States Army from 2017-2022. He was a second generation operator for the Operating Union Local 150, who worked out of the Cleveland Cliff branch out of Burns Harbor. Jon was engaged to his beloved fiancé, Sierra Samuels. He enjoyed traveling, going to Warped Tour Concerts, getting and giving tattoos, video games, shopping, and has a very vibrant shoe collection. Jon’s greatest joy in life was time spent beside his family, being with his friends, and loving his children fully and completely.

Jon is survived by his mother: Carrie Stepp, fiancé: Sierra Samuels, children: Sophie Stepp, Dawson Stepp, Elijah Stepp, Aidan Samuels, Asher Samuels, Addy Samuels, sister: Brittany (Joshua) Baker, nephews: Owen Baker, Liam Baker, and grandparents: Bill (Donna) Stepp Sr., and Grace Beal.

Jon was preceded in death by his father: William Stepp Jr., and grandfather: Timothy Beal.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield. Funeral Services for Jon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the DeMotte Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carrie for his children.
