Lillian (Graczyk) Glass went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2025, at the age of 98.
She was born to Adam and Agnes (Wozniak) Graczyk on December 20, 1926, in Calumet City, Illinois. Later, the family relocated to Chicago, near the present-day Midway Airport. Lillian often shared stories of her childhood, reminiscing about a time when the area outside Chicago was still a prairie. Remarkably, the field where her father once cut hay with a scythe is now a bustling runway. One of the stories she often told was about the lamplighter who would ride his bicycle every evening to light the gas streetlights. She certainly witnessed many changes in her lifetime.
Lillian had a love for music and enjoyed singing in her younger years. In the 1940s, she performed and played the guitar with the radio act Captain Stubby and the Buccaneers. On June 1, 1950, she married James D. Glass and settled in DeMotte, Indiana. Lillian was a member of the American Reformed Church and sang in the choir for many years. She taught herself to play the organ, which brought her much joy. An avid gardener with a powerful green thumb, it was often said that she could make a dead stick grow. Lillian retired from Schuringa Poultry Farm in Wheatfield, where she had worked for many years.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents: Adam and Agnes, her eight siblings, her husband: James, and her daughter: Christine (Glass) Carlson.
Lillian is survived by her children: Donald (Pamela) Kachlic, and Carol (David) Fitzpatrick, her five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her sister: Adel Lange.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the DeMotte Cemetery with Pastor Troy Nanninga officiating.
