Michael C. Betts

Michael Charles Betts, son of Eirwen and Edward Betts, survived by his son Jacob, brothers and sisters Sandy, Judy, Brian, and Denise, grandchildren Hadlee and Harper Betts, passed away unexpectedly on January 4th, 2024.

Mike was born in Johnstown, PA on December 28, 1953. Mike started and ended his career working in the open-hearth department at Bethlehem Steel. Mike decided to continue his career with Bethlehem Steel and moved to Chesterton, Indiana.

Mike was fortunate enough to meet Christine Tanner, daughter of Robert and Phyllis Tanner, whom he married on October 17, 1981, in Rensselaer, Indiana. Mike loved Christine and considered her his closest and most dependable friend.

Mike’s nicknames included Beef and Bailey in Johnstown.  He was known in Indiana by One-way and that’s says all you need to know about him!

Mike’s temperament was a little overwhelming upon first impression, but his inner kindness and generosity was recognized instantly after talking with him.

Mike was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fanatic. If you ever entered Mike’s house, you’d definitely recognize his favorite team. His passion and obsession for the Steelers began during the Steel Curtain era.

Mike’s proudest moments were fathering his two sons, Joshua and Jacob.

Mike liked playing cards, watching Steelers on Sunday, shooting darts, playing cornhole and throwing horseshoes, often gloating after defeating his many fallen competitors.

Mike will be passionately missed by family and friends and all our heartfelt sorrows and sympathy go out to his surviving family.

YOU WILL BE MISSED, MIKE!

Thank you Betts family for providing this obituary.

Per Mike's wishes cremation will take place.
