Russell F. ‘Gus’ Critser went to be with God on March 14, 2026 in Crown Point, Indiana
Gus was born on July 22, 1936 in Rensselaer, Indiana to Mabel (Wallace) Critser and Joseph Critser. Gus lived his entire life in Rensselaer. He graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1955. Gus worked for his father for many years at Rensselaer Sand and Gravel Co., leaving there and started Critser Trucking. Later he owned and operated Gus’ Place in downtown Rensselaer. Gus married Mary Ann (Duke) Nichols and together had three children: William 'Bill' J. (Nada) Critser, Russell 'Andy' A. (Lora) Critser, and Joan M. McClusky. Eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Gus loved breeding and racing Standard Bred horses, racing in the Chicago area and in Kentucky for many years.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Jerry Critser, Jay Critser, and one granddaughter: Angie Critser.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
