Ruth E. Hanewich

91 year old, Ruth E. Hanewich of Wheatfield (Kniman), passed away April 20, 2018.

On December 7, 1926 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Ruth was born to Floyd E and Helen B. (Corbett) Allyn. Ruth graduated from Wheatfield High School in 1944. She married the love of her life, Alex Hanewich on October 31, 1945. Ruth enjoyed being a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the Kniman United Methodist Church, served on the Kankakee Valley School Board for 12 years, a 4-H Leader for 27 years, a member of the Royal Neighbors, and served on the Township Advisory Board. Ruth was even a baseball coach for little league (the only woman coach at the time).

Ruth is survived by her children: Karen (John) Systma, Barbara (Nick) Tillema, and Lynn (Steve) Waymouth, daughter-in-laws: Sheila Hanewich and Laura Hanewich, 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, brother: Ed (Kathy) Allyn, and brother-in-law: Mose Homoky.

Ruth was preceded in death by her: husband: Alex, sons: Mike, Tim & Thomas, daughter: Gloria Hicks, granddaughter: Lauren (Hanewich) Lammon, grandson: Joshua Hanewich, and sister: Jane

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Ruth will take place on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor David Patterson officiating, interment will follow at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer.
