William 'Billy' Prater

57 year old, William ‘Billy’ Prater Jr., of DeMotte, passed away May 13, 2026, at home with his loving family around him.

On August 7, 1968, Billy was born to William Sr. and Carol (Whiteman) Prater, in Valparaiso, Indiana. He worked as a mechanic out of his garage, turning wrenches and fixing cars. Billy spent 30 years of his life with his beloved partner and love of his life, Pam Cooper. He enjoyed working on cars, boating, riding his Harley, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Billy is survived by his fiancé’: Pam Cooper, daughter: Kristina (Bruce) Byram, 8 grandchildren, and sister: Chris (Bud) McElroy.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter: Amanda Cooper.

Per Billy’s wishes cremation will take place.

Friends are invited to join the family for Billy’s Celebration of Life from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Roselawn American Legion Post 238, 4181 E St. Rd. 10, Roselawn, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
