89 year old, Wilma Misch-Abbott, of Monticello, formerly of Wheatfield, passed away April 28, 2026, with her loving family around her.
On October 27, 1936, Wilma was born to August and Viola (Scherer) Schuster in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Hebron High School, and earned her Associates Degree in Science from St. Mary of the Woods class of 1995. Wilma worked as a phlebotomist at the Jasper County Hospital, Porter Memorial Hospital, and White County Hospital. Though if you asked Wilma, she took the most pleasure from being a farm wife, mother, and caretaker of her family. Wilma was the founding member of the Helping Hands of White County, a member of the Altar Rosary Sodality at both Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, and would volunteer at nursing homes cleaning the resident’s glasses and sitting around just talking. She loved to be outside gardening, fishing, and was an avid Cubs fan. Wilma hopes you remember her for her faith, her love of family, and the friendships that meant so much to her.
Wilma is survived by her children: Barb (Dan) Stalbaum, Kathy (Greg) Brinkman, Carol (Greg) Scott, John (Linda) Misch, Jim (Debbie) Misch, Marianne (Phil) Klemp, Ellen (Craig) Hall, 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, siblings: Mary Jane Stevens, Larry (Betsy) Schuster, Don (Maren) Schuster, the Abbott kids she loved: Lori, Mike, and Jane, as well as their families, and her husband Leo’s family: Don (Barb) Misch, Shirley (the late Clarence) Misch, and Mary Alice (Phil) Brown.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Leo Misch, Louis Abbott DDS, sons: Leonard Misch, Jerry Misch, brothers: Jack, Tom, Ray, Jim, sister: Renee Yankauskas, and Leo’s sister: Doris (Ole) Myers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, 165 South Grace Street, Wheatfield, Indiana.
