Zelma Deerberg

June 3, 1910 — February 25, 2006

Zelma Deerberg

On February 25th, 2006, Zelma Deerberg passed away at home, following a lengthy illness.  Her daughter, Karen and son-in-law Bob Rust, were with her when she went to be with her husband, Pat, who passed away in 1980, her daughter, Arla (George) Myers in 1988, and her son, Don who passed away in 1995.

 

Zelma was born in Rochester, Indiana on June 3, 1910 to Cora (Huber) and Perry Hodge.  Her mother moved the family to Wheatfield after the death of her father.  She graduated from Tefft High School in 1928 and was married to Pat in September of that year.

 

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Goldie Brady, Dessie Batonie, Bernie Dusek, and brother Harold Hodge.

 

Zelma leaves behind nine grandchildren; Greg Deerberg, Montana; Dana (Vicki) Deerberg, Wisconsin; Tony (Sue) Deerberg, LaPorte; Kema (Henry) Justice, Westville; Marty Deerberg, Germany; Brian (Karen) Myers, Wheatfield; Joey (Steve) Myers, Maine; Karen (Mike) Wentworth, Massachusetts; Douglas (Missy) Myers, DeMotte; and foster granddaughter, Betty Owens of Wheatfield.

 

Twenty-two Great-Grandchildren, nineteen Great-Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, she loved dearly.

 

Zelma ran the old telephone office in Wheatfield for several years, and was a homemaker, loving wife, GREAT mom, and a SUPER Grandmother.

 

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. (CST).  Services will be held at the Boersma Funeral Home on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. (CST), with Pastor Roger Sculley officiating.  Interment will take place at the Wheatfield Cemetery. 

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wheatfield Chamber of Commerce or the Wheatfield Food Pantry.
