Sharon Messmaker-Bovenkerk

73 year old, Sharon G. Messmaker-Bovenkerk, of Rensselaer, formerly of DeMotte, passed away August 4, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette.

On September 25, 1947, Sharon was born to Albert and Jennie (VanSchouwen) Slager, in Hammond, Indiana.

Sharon was an accountant, and ran her own housekeeping business. She was a member of the Women’s Auxillary DeMotte American Legion Post #440, and the Red Hat Society. She liked to paint, garden, going shopping, and especially loving on her grandkids.

Sharon is survived by children: Kevin (Susie) Messmaker, Kristi (Mark) Deavers, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, and sister: Norma (Wayne) Van Drunen and her fur baby: Libby.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Robert Messmaker, and Paul Bovenkerk, great-granddaughter: Lily Hovis, brothers: Peter ‘Wayne’ Slager, and Albert ‘Algy’ Slager Jr.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Sharon will take place at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday with Pastor Kerry Robinson officiating. Interment will follow cremation at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
